The British health authority has launched the world's largest trial to detect over 50 types of cancer before symptoms appear. Amanda Pritchard, CEO of the British health agency, stated via Twitter, "The agency has started today the largest trial in the world to test a new blood test that detects more than 50 types of cancer before symptoms appear." She added, "By detecting cancer early, we will have the best chance of treating it and giving people the best possible chance of survival."
The trial relies on the "Galleri" blood test, which examines DNA in the blood to determine whether it contains cells affected by cancer, leading to early diagnosis and thereby increasing recovery rates. Peter Sasieni, a professor of cancer prevention at King’s College London, remarked, "The test will bring about a huge change in the early detection of cancer, especially since lung, bowel, prostate, and breast cancers account for over 65% of cancer deaths in the UK." He continued, "We are excited to be pioneers of this important initiative."
