U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced that President Joe Biden will declare an end to U.S. support for the war in Yemen.
According to Sputnik news agency, Jake Sullivan stated today that President Biden will sign a series of executive orders regarding U.S. national security, noting that Biden's choice to visit the State Department first was to send a clear message that the new U.S. administration will rely on diplomacy. Sullivan pointed out that discussions have been held with officials in Saudi Arabia and the UAE regarding the cessation of U.S. support for the war in Yemen, emphasizing that the halt in support for operations in Yemen does not include fighting against Al-Qaeda. Reports have indicated that the Biden administration intends to revoke the Trump administration's decision to designate the Houthis as a terrorist organization.
Regarding the Iranian nuclear file, Sullivan explained that the U.S. is engaged with Europeans on Iran, stating, “We will reach a united front.”
President Joe Biden faces a series of crises from day one of his arrival at the White House, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which is intensifying in the U.S. even after the approval of vaccines, the challenge of climate change (especially since Donald Trump previously dismissed this global crisis), the ongoing economic downturn that has affected all American commercial sectors, and the issue of rising racism in America. Moreover, there are lingering international issues, particularly the Iranian nuclear file, relations with Russia, and trade competition with China.
