Dr. Tatyana Razumovskaya, a Russian nutrition expert, announced that daily bread consumption affects digestion and weight gain. In an interview with the Russian news agency TASS, she mentioned the problems that can be avoided by completely giving up bread or reducing the quantity consumed. According to her, 100 grams of bread contains 250-300 calories, and the glycemic index of wheat bread is 85-90. She stated, "When we eat white bread, insulin secretion sharply increases because blood sugar levels rise suddenly, and shortly after that, they drop, making a person feel hungry. Therefore, white bread indirectly causes weight gain as it stimulates appetite. If a person eats a lot and exercises little, it is better for them to completely exclude bread from their diet."
The expert added that whole grain bread contains a high amount of dietary fiber, which can cause bloating and gas if consumed in large quantities. However, consuming it in moderation improves digestion. She noted, "White bread made from wheat flour can cause constipation, especially in older adults. It is better to avoid it if there are issues with bowel function."
