The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Iraq announced the discovery of several hideouts belonging to ISIS remnants and explosives planted along roads in eastern Salah al-Din.
In a statement today, the PMF said, "The ninth brigade of the PMF conducted a security operation in the Al-Aith area and the surrounding villages following a treacherous terrorist attack to pursue the terrorist cells." The statement added that "the security operation resulted in the discovery of a number of hideouts belonging to ISIS remnants and several explosive devices that were planted along the roads."
The statement continued that "the ninth brigade of the PMF discovered a tunnel measuring 10 meters long that served as a hideout for the terrorists." It emphasized that "the PMF forces will continue their inspection duties to cleanse and secure these areas and eliminate any terrorist presence within them."
It is noteworthy that the PMF was formed to combat ISIS during its invasion of northern and western Iraq in 2014 and engaged in battles against the organization alongside the Iraqi army.
Last Sunday, the Joint Operations Command announced that 11 PMF members, including a leader, were martyred in a violent attack by armed individuals belonging to ISIS in Salah al-Din province.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the double bombing that occurred in a clothing market in Tayaran Square in central Baghdad, which resulted in dozens of civilian casualties and hundreds of injuries, prompting Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to conduct a series of security dismissals and changes.
