400 Judges Decide to Continue Their Sit-In

The judges' general assembly held a meeting in the grand hall of the Court of Cassation, attended by around 400 judges led by the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Suhail Aboud, along with members of the judiciary council and judges from courts of cassation, appeals, public prosecution, and all judicial circuits. The discussions highlighted the reasons for the sit-in, which has entered its second week, and the difficult material, moral, social, and health conditions faced by the judges.

At the end of the deliberations, it became clear that communications with officials had not resulted in any outcome to achieve the minimum demands of the judges. Therefore, the attendees unanimously decided to continue the sit-in and keep meetings open to monitor all developments.

Additionally, the media office of the Supreme Judicial Council issued the following statement: The Supreme Judicial Council, which ensures the proper functioning of the judiciary, its dignity, and independence, and is committed to safeguarding the rights of judges, fully adopts all the judges' demands and their implications related to the sit-in until what has been agreed upon in this regard is implemented. It also points out that the deterioration of judicial conditions is primarily due to the non-passage of the law on the independence of the judiciary, which will remain a subject of ongoing monitoring by the Supreme Judicial Council, and it will keep its meetings open in this regard.
