Russian Doctor Explains Alcohol's Impact on Kidneys

Dr. Ruslan Khanliyev, a specialist in urinary system disorders, warned about the consequences of alcohol consumption and its effect on kidney function and performance. In a television interview, the specialist pointed out that the byproducts of alcohol digestion in the body are toxic substances, which leads to an increased burden on the kidneys. He stated, "The nephron, the kidney unit responsible for reabsorbing water, particularly suffers, which includes the reabsorption of essential substances like electrolytes, amino acids, and glucose, after which the entire kidney is affected."

The specialist emphasized that once the kidneys stop expelling toxins from the body, poisoning occurs, leading to kidney failure, which can spread to other organs and pose a risk of death. Khanliyev noted that most men who consult him for benign prostatic hyperplasia admit to having consumed alcohol the day before. He remarked, "The amount of alcohol consumed is not what's important. What matters is that alcohol exacerbates chronic diseases. We must not forget that consuming alcohol in any concentration or any dose leads to irreversible severe consequences."
