"ISIS" Claims Responsibility for Double Bombing in Baghdad

The terrorist organization "ISIS" has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack that struck the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of over 30 people. In a statement published through its affiliated media, the organization stated that one of its members, known as Abu Yusuf al-Ansari, detonated an explosive belt he was wearing in Al-Tayaran Square, while a second explosion was carried out in the same manner by another member of the organization named Muhammad Aref al-Muhajir, following a gathering of people near the site after the first explosion.

It is noteworthy that two successive explosions shook the area near Al-Tayaran Square and Bab al-Sharqi in central Baghdad yesterday, and the Iraqi Ministry of Health reported 32 fatalities and 110 injuries as a result of the two suicide bombings that took place in a popular market in Baghdad.

Following the explosion, Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mustafa Al-Kadhimi chaired an emergency meeting for security leaders, asserting that "the response to those who have spilled the pure blood of Iraqis will be severe and seismic." Al-Kadhimi also issued orders for major changes in the security services.

In the wake of the explosion, there was a wave of international, Arab, and local condemnations, and Iraqi officials called for an investigation and accountability for those negligent in security.
