Milan Draws with Salernitana, Misses Chance to Extend Lead

Milan squandered two precious points in the Serie A title race with a 2-2 draw against host Salernitana on Saturday in the 26th round. In other matches, Roma rallied from two goals down to draw 2-2 with visiting Verona, while veteran striker Fabio Quagliarella led his Sampdoria team to a 2-0 victory over Empoli.

At the Arechi Stadium, Brazilian Junior Messias opened the scoring for Milan five minutes into the match, but Federico Bonazzoli equalized for Salernitana in the 29th minute. In the second half, Bosnian striker Milan Djuric netted Salernitana's second goal in the 72nd minute, before Croatian Ante Rebic responded with an equalizer for Milan five minutes later.

Milan's tally remains at 56 points from 26 matches, just two points ahead of second-placed Inter Milan, who have played 24 matches, and three points clear of third-placed Napoli, who have played 25 matches. Salernitana sits at the bottom with 14 points. Inter Milan will host Sassuolo on Sunday, while Napoli will face Cagliari on Monday.
