Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum held a telephone conversation with Jan Kubis, the UN Special Envoy for Libya and head of its mission.
Boukadoum wrote on Twitter today that he discussed with Kubis "ways to advance the UN political track to resolve the Libyan crisis and the role of Algeria and neighboring countries in supporting these efforts to preserve the unity and sovereignty of this brotherly country away from foreign interventions." He added, "These were the main topics of the phone call I received today from Jan Kubis, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Libya."
Last month, UN Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Slovak diplomat Jan Kubis as the UN Special Envoy for Libya and head of its mission. Kubis succeeded Bulgarian Nikolai Mladenov, who announced his resignation last December for "family reasons."
Kubis (68 years old) has served as the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon since January 2019, according to "France 24." He previously headed the UN mission in Iraq from 2015 to 2018 and in Afghanistan from 2011 to 2015. Kubis also held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs of his country from 2006 to 2009 and served as the Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe from 1999 to 2005.
