The Russian Foreign Ministry welcomed the interim agreement between Iran and the United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, expressed Moscow's approval of Tehran's temporary agreement regarding inspections of its facilities following the IAEA director's visit to Iran. In her statement today, Zakharova noted that the IAEA and Iran had made significant positive contributions toward establishing the conditions for substantive discussions between the current participants in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and the United States regarding Washington's return to the nuclear agreement.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi announced in a joint statement with Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, that Iran agreed to comply with the nuclear agreement and continue inspection activities for three months. Grossi clarified that the agency's relationship with Iran focuses on technical rather than political aspects, emphasizing that there would be regular reviews of the technical understandings to ensure the achievement of their goals.
Grossi indicated that the measures to be implemented are not a substitute for the comprehensive agreement, but rather frameworks that enable a gradual return to the nuclear deal. He noted that his talks in Iran resulted in a reasonable outcome. The IAEA director pointed out that the impact of Iran's reduced cooperation with the agency would be mitigated by the agreement reached today. Grossi added that Iranian legislation to reduce cooperation would be implemented, followed by the suspension of the additional protocol, while indicating that Tehran would continue to implement the agreement with the IAEA without restrictions.
