The official spokesperson of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, Major General Khaled Mohana, confirmed that the terrorist operation that took place today will not affect the course of daily life in Baghdad.
According to the "Baghdad Today" newspaper, Major General Mohana stated that the ministry has no intention of imposing measures that restrict freedoms, such as closing cities or blocking roads, and he ruled out the possibility of repeated terrorist explosions similar to today’s incident in Tayaran Square in central Baghdad. Mohana emphasized, "This operation, according to our estimates, is an individual act that the ISIS terrorist organization will not be able to replicate,” indicating there is no intelligence information suggesting similar attacks are imminent.
Major General Mohana confirmed that security forces are preparing for the situation and taking precautions, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities. He clarified that there has never been a complete declaration of the eradication of all remnants of ISIS terrorist groups, pointing out that sleeper cells still pose a threat despite their significantly weakened capabilities.
Mohana denied reports circulating on social media regarding the identification of the suicide bombers involved in the incident, asserting that security agencies are diligently analyzing all details of the operation.
He also confirmed that security agencies were fully aware that remnants of ISIS were planning a terrorist operation and noted that investigations had identified a group of them; however, they acted quickly and detonated themselves during the pursuit.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, during an urgent security meeting following the suicide bombing in Tayaran Square, issued an order to implement changes in the security and intelligence apparatus responsible for the area of the incident.
It is worth mentioning that the spokesperson for the Iraqi army, Yahya Rasul, announced that suicide terrorists detonated themselves while being pursued by security forces in the Bab Al-Sharqi area of Baghdad this Thursday morning, resulting in a number of martyrs and injuries among civilians.
The Iraqi Ministry of Health recently released a statement confirming that the terrorist act resulted in 32 martyrs and 110 injured, noting that 70% of those injured received necessary treatment and left the hospital.
