Liverpool tops the Premier League table with 33 points, ahead on goal difference only from Manchester United, who have been performing well recently.
Manchester United could potentially take the lead in the Premier League if they manage to at least draw or win against Burnley, in the postponed match from the first round. This delay is due to the Red Devils’ late participation in the Europa League last season in August, where they exited in the semi-finals against the title-winning Sevilla. The match between Burnley and Manchester United, which was postponed from the first round, is scheduled for Tuesday evening at Turf Moor.
Leicester City, led by their top scorer Jamie Vardy, occupies the third position in the Premier League standings with 32 points after defeating Newcastle United in the last round with a score of 2-1.
In fourth place is Tottenham Hotspur, managed by José Mourinho, with 29 points, and they have a postponed match against Fulham due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the latter's squad. They are level on points with Manchester City, who currently sit in fifth place and have two matches postponed.
Notably, Southampton is in sixth place with 29 points as well, following their valuable victory over Liverpool in the previous round with a score of 1-0, ahead on goal difference from Everton, who holds the seventh position.
