First Case of Monkeypox Detected in the UAE

The UAE has announced the detection of its first case of monkeypox within its territory. The Ministry of Health stated in a statement that the case concerns a 29-year-old woman who visited the country from West Africa. The statement indicated that the infected woman is receiving the necessary medical care in the UAE. The ministry confirmed that health authorities are taking all necessary measures, including investigation, testing, and monitoring of close contacts. It explained that the authorities are following a monitoring mechanism in accordance with the highest global practices to ensure community protection against communicable diseases, quickly discover cases, and work to limit local spread of all diseases and viruses, including monkeypox. The ministry urged citizens to obtain information from official sources and to refrain from spreading rumors and misinformation regarding this issue.
