Presidential Initiative to be Launched by Change MPs!

Deputy Waddah Sadiq stated that the pressure to form a government indicates that the situation regarding the presidential election is difficult. He believes that Hezbollah is moving towards forming a government despite its alliance with President Michel Aoun because it fears a presidential vacuum. "In contrast, we as Change Forces are focused on achieving the presidential election and electing a president within the constitutional timeframe. In our opinion, if the government is formed and gains the confidence of the parliament, what can it do? Therefore, we decided to take the right path, which is to elect a president first, and then form the government," he said.

Sadiq revealed, in an interview with "Anbaa" electronic newspaper, that the Change MPs are launching an initiative in this regard, hoping that other political forces will join them to implement it, as they are convinced that there cannot be a challenging president, as that would mean continuing to disrupt the country. He believes that the country needs a president who knows how to manage the state, a national president with a genuine commitment to implementing the required reforms and who does not belong to any specific party or its ally.

Sadiq also outlined the main points of the Change initiative, stating that the country needs a consensus president who is not confrontational, who forms a cohesive team with the government to work on solving economic and financial problems. He pointed out that Lebanon is a small country and resolving its issues does not require much time, and this is fundamental. He emphasized that the initiative does not propose specific candidates, as this matter will be discussed with the blocs before agreeing on names.

Regarding electricity, Sadiq talked about the great pressures exerted in this area, believing that painful decisions must be made. He sees raising tariffs as very important, as it significantly benefits citizens by reducing their expenses on generator bills. He pointed out that some individuals' relationships with the fuel mafia have severely harmed the treasury to the extent that it can no longer benefit from it since reserves are depleted. He stated that raising the tariff is the solution to achieving 12 hours of electricity provided from the bills of generators, moving towards approving a comprehensive plan and putting electricity reforms on the right path.
