Proposed Law for the Import of COVID-19 Products in Lebanon

As the pandemic situation escalates in Lebanon, the Chairman of the Health Committee, MP Assem Araji, stated that the Health Committee has approved the final draft of a law for the import of medical products to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Assem Araji explained that the President of the House, Nabih Berri, will call for an emergency session to approve the law as soon as possible, noting that this law is not limited to Pfizer but includes all companies. In a television statement, Assem Araji pointed out that the House of Representatives has fulfilled its duties completely, noting that the assembly is necessarily governed under the existence of a resigned government.

Assem Araji mentioned that Lebanon learned only 72 hours ago that Pfizer required a law, as the company had previously requested a commitment from the presidents, but it was communicated to the Minister of Health on Friday that they wanted a law following a dispute with the Argentine government. He added that this law will be approved to hold governments accountable during the period from initial approval to final approval of the vaccine. He clarified that humanity will suffer until the end of 2021 to achieve community immunity.
