The Government in Intensive Care!

The issue of forming the Lebanese government seems to be as intractable as the COVID-19 pandemic in Lebanon; both are complicated matters. The disagreement and rift between Baabda and Beit al-Wasat have deepened to the extent that the government formation file appears to be in intensive care.

Lebanon's crises are intertwined and complex, requiring immediate and decisive action with a high degree of responsibility to mitigate their repercussions on all levels: politically, educationally, humanitarianly, and socially. The pillars of authority are divided over many major political options in the region and Lebanon, while at the same time, they agree on the continuation of the existing deadlock among them as authorities in most internal issues.

At the forefront of the disputed issues is the task of forming the new government and the obstacles standing in its way, as the rift remains dominant, with no signs so far of anyone intervening as a mediator to resolve it. The leaked video in which President Aoun accuses former Prime Minister Saad Hariri of lying has further deepened the rift. The circles of the presidential palace affirm that this video was not intentionally leaked but is merely a technical error, and that Aoun is awaiting Hariri's response regarding the issue of the ministries of justice and interior and the agreement on the name of the interior minister. Meanwhile, sources from the Future movement refute all this, considering that the discourse promoted by Aoun, his team, and the president of the Free Patriotic Movement about undermining the rights of Christians and the position of the presidency is an attempt to bypass the constitution and stir sectarian sentiments to justify obstructing the formation of a government that does not align with Aoun's desires.
