Brent crude settled at $56.08 per barrel, after rising by 18 cents, while West Texas Intermediate rose by 26 cents, closing at $53.24 per barrel.
Brent crude futures ended trading up by $1.15, equivalent to a 2.1% increase, settling at $55.90 per barrel. Meanwhile, U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude rose by 62 cents, a 1.2% increase, to settle at $52.98 per barrel. Following optimistic earnings reports from major U.S. banks and comments from Janet Yellen, the nominee for U.S. Treasury Secretary, the main stock indices on Wall Street rose.
