At France's request and amid ongoing security escalations in the south, the United Nations Security Council is holding a closed consultation session today to discuss the situation in Lebanon. The goal is to commence considerations for possible arrangements following the end of the United Nations Interim Force's mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
In related developments, "Al-Markazia" has learned that Lebanon is set to demand during today's closed Security Council session the renewal of UNIFIL's mandate. If this is not possible, Lebanon will propose the formation of an international UN-backed force, recalling resolution 1701, which includes the termination of armed presence.
