Climate Change between the Pope and Khamir

The central issue – Almost every day in the Vatican, Lebanon is present through meetings of Pope Francis with various personalities and delegations visiting the Holy See. The latest meeting occurred last Monday when the Pope met with Fadi Khamir, chairman of the Water Academy in France, for half an hour from nine to nine-thirty in the morning. The meeting was attended by Professor Costas Papanicolas, president of the Cyprus Institute of Technology (MIT), and addressed the issue of climate change, which Pope Francis pays special attention to.

Khamir informed the Pope about his book, written in French, titled "Hydrodiplomatie Et Nexus," in which he compared "Laudato Si" that the Pope launched to preserve the Earth from climate change with his work regarding water diplomacy (hydrodiplomatie) in both Lebanon and Cyprus. The discussion covered all these topics and the importance of protecting the environment, with encouragement from Pope Francis to continue this work as it aligns with the message he launched in 2015, "Laudato Si."

The conversation also shifted to the situation in Lebanon, where Pope Francis expressed his concern for the land of the Cedars, according to Khamir, with hopes that God would help the country overcome its hardships and protect the Christians and Maronite leaders to guide their nation to a better future.
