Lebanese Diving Center President, Youssef Al-Jundi, stated that the Israeli oil spills have extended along the Lebanese coast.
In an interview with "Sputnik," Al-Jundi mentioned that "the Israeli oil spills have extended along the Lebanese coast with variations from one area to another." He indicated that today a team from the National Center for Marine Sciences discovered an oil spill in the Ramlet al-Baida area in Beirut, and a significant portion of the spill is present in the Naqoura area, southern Lebanon, and in the areas of Al-Bi'ada and Al-Mansouri, which contain massive oil masses and are regions that include natural reserves such as the Tyre Reserve.
Al-Jundi explained that "the Tyre Natural Reserve has large amounts of oil spills because it has a wide beach, and we have been trying for two days to adopt a method for their removal." He added, "We will remove these spills from locations that contain marine turtles, such as Tyre Reserve and Al-Mansouri Beach, and afterward, we will move on to the rocks and other areas, which cannot be accomplished in one day, a week, a month, or two months."
President Michel Aoun has been following reports regarding the oil spill affecting the beaches in the occupied territories and its negative impact on the Lebanese coast, especially since the information indicated that the spill has extended to more than 160 kilometers of the occupied beaches.
President Aoun requested Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe to follow up on this matter with the United Nations and international bodies, particularly since Lebanon continues to suffer from the environmental disaster caused by the Israeli bombardment of the Jiyyeh depots during the 2006 aggression.
