U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that next Tuesday, the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement will be removed from the "U.S. blacklist of terrorist organizations."
AFP reported that the U.S. Secretary of State urged all parties to work towards achieving a lasting political solution in Yemen, emphasizing that this is the only way to end the humanitarian crisis. Blinken stated that the decision to revoke the terrorist designation for the Houthis aims to ensure that U.S. policies do not hinder the provision of humanitarian aid. He stressed that Washington will continue to highlight the destabilizing activities of the Houthi group and will pressure them to change their behavior.
Blinken noted that Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, Abdul-Khaliq Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and Abdullah Yahya al-Hakim remain under sanctions, and that Washington will continue to support the implementation of UN sanctions against these members. He confirmed that Washington will double its efforts alongside the UN and others to end the war in Yemen, pointing out that it will continue to closely monitor the activities of the Houthi group and its leaders. Blinken expressed Washington's commitment to assisting its Gulf partners in defending themselves against threats from Yemen, which are backed by Iran.
