Title: Tunisia... Renewed Clashes Between Police and Protesters

Clashes have renewed between Tunisian police and protesters in the interior city of Sbeitla.

According to AFP, Tunisian security forces closed the roads leading to the House of Representatives today. Demonstrators began gathering in several neighborhoods, particularly in the Al-Tadamun district, while security forces set up barriers to prevent protesters from reaching the vicinity of the parliament in Bardo, increasing their presence significantly.

This public protest comes following the announcement of the death of a protester who was injured during clashes with the police in Sbeitla. The family of the deceased confirmed to local media that he was injured by a tear gas canister while participating in the demonstrations that erupted this month, marking the anniversary of the Tunisian revolution.

In anticipation of attempts to storm government institutions in Sbeitla, units of the Tunisian army were deployed in front of state institutions there. Security forces dispersed protesters in the neighborhood where the deceased protester lived, using tear gas.

It is noteworthy that Tunisia has witnessed protests in several regions of the country since the middle of this month, demanding greater social justice and the release of protesters arrested by the police following clashes. This coincides with the implementation of a nightly curfew as part of measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, 28 non-governmental organizations called for a march on Tuesday in front of the parliament to denounce particularly the "police policy" in dealing with protests.
