General Abbas Ibrahim Warns of ISIS Entering Through Tripoli

The Director General of General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, warned of the potential entry of ISIS into Lebanon through Tripoli.

In an interview with Al-Hurra channel during the Lebanese Scene program, Major General Abbas Ibrahim explained that following the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the organization's presence diminished. He indicated that for some time, threats have been heard regarding the liberation of ISIS prisoners, followed by the bombings in Iraq and increased ISIS activity in certain areas of Syria. Ibrahim noted that "Lebanon is not an isolated island, and it is natural for it to be affected by its surrounding environment." He confirmed that necessary measures are being taken to prevent ISIS from entering Lebanon, warning that what is happening in Tripoli could serve as a gateway for the organization to enter the Lebanese arena.

Regarding the formation of the government, Major General Abbas Ibrahim confirmed that his task is not impossible when it comes to efforts for government formation, stating: "I look for common ground among the parties and try to find a solution to get out of the governmental crisis." He pointed out that Gebran Bassil has the right to intervene in the formation process as he is the head of the largest parliamentary bloc, while also noting that Hezbollah does not obstruct the formation.

Ibrahim mentioned that he has sensed international interest in Lebanese affairs, holding the international community responsible for the current situation, as it has treated the Lebanese state as a Hezbollah state, which is inaccurate. He also observed an Arab push towards achieving political stability in Lebanon, aiming to restore its reputation as a paradise for investments for these countries. He confirmed that a defensive strategy must be developed as a solution for the Lebanese situation, emphasizing that the solution should be internal, as all pressures on Hezbollah have not led to a solution regarding weapons. He expressed his readiness to mediate in this context and in any issue that serves Lebanon and its stability.

Ibrahim confirmed that half of the Lebanese detainees in the UAE will return in the coming hours, revealing that there is an initiative to close this file definitively.
