"LADI": Continuous Violations of the Electoral Silence by Politicians

The Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections (LADI) has called on the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities to issue an immediate circular to polling bodies requiring the head of the polling station and the clerk to sign on the back of the official ballot paper, and for the head of the polling station to sign the stamped official envelope. LADI received information about ballots being delivered without signatures or signed only on the front, which could be considered an additional marking that may invalidate the ballot.

LADI later noted a continuous violation of the electoral silence by candidates and politicians, including President Michel Aoun. The organization observed a lack of familiarity with the election law in the northern Metn area.

In this context, a correspondent from the National News Agency in Sidon reported that security forces detained a voter at the Marjan polling center in Sidon after the head of the polling station discovered that the voter had brought in a cell phone and filmed the list on which he cast his vote, which constitutes a violation of the legal procedures of the electoral process, leading to the invalidation of his vote.

Additionally, cameras captured a representative from the Amal Movement closely observing a female voter while she cast her vote, without the head of the polling station intervening. There was also a blatant violation where a representative from Hezbollah was seen entering the privacy booth with a voter and closely examining the ballot paper she held.
