Stalled Efforts: The Relationship between the Free Patriotic Movement and Future Movement in a Dilemma

The relationship between the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) and the Future Movement seems to be heating up, causing the situation in Lebanon to escalate on all fronts, increasing the likelihood of entering a new winter hibernation for government formation.

Following the leak of a video in which President Aoun accused former Prime Minister Hariri of lying, informed sources indicated that the relationship between Aoun and Hariri is in a complex predicament. The same sources confirmed to "Al-Joumhouria" that President Aoun is determined to adhere to the principle of a productive government, even if it requires some to distort the facts to hold him responsible for the delays. They emphasized that Aoun will not be the first to cry out in the battle of brinkmanship, stating that for him, this is not a matter of personal calculations but a matter of protecting rights and balances.

The sources noted that the names proposed by Hariri to Aoun are not well-known and are unable to tackle the various challenges facing Lebanon. The disagreements center around not limiting the ministries of Justice and Interior to the Future Movement, as well as the fact that both the Ministry of Finance and the Public Prosecution Office should not be held by one party, which is the matter Aoun urged Hariri to use a consistent standard on.

Furthermore, the efforts made by Bkerke and Hezbollah to resolve the dispute between the two parties have faced new obstacles following recent media exchanges, leading some to favor the likelihood of no government formation, and consequently, Lebanon remains in a dark tunnel overshadowed by the conflicts of the political class.
