The newspaper "Al-Joumhouria" reported that diplomatic sources do not exclude an imminent French move towards Lebanon, whether through French President Emmanuel Macron himself, or via French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, or through the French President's advisor Patrick Dorel.
According to the sources, the movement raises the possibility of a new visit that Macron might undertake, compensating for the visit that was postponed on the eve of Christmas last year, to personally oversee the French solution to the crisis in Lebanon. The sources believe that it is merely a matter of time, but not a long time, as there is a French urgency to reopen the Lebanese file, which was evident in Macron's recent invitation to Saudi Arabia not to abandon Lebanon, as well as his rushing to discuss the Lebanese file with U.S. President Joe Biden just two days ago.
The sources added that all this information shows that Macron is seeking momentum to resume his mission in Lebanon, in which he holds great hopes for success. The swift announcement by President Macron, following his call with the U.S. president, about French-American cooperation on the Lebanese file, alongside the Iranian nuclear file, is read as an indication that the French president has gained the momentum he desires.
Multiple Lebanese newspapers published yesterday morning that the crisis of forming a new government is worsening, and all available indicators suggest that the option for a quick resolution of the governmental crisis is currently unavailable, amid rising tensions and a war of statements between Lebanese President Michel Aoun and his political team (the Free Patriotic Movement led by MP Gebran Bassil) on one side, and the designated Prime Minister Saad Hariri on the other.
