Security Forces Warn of WhatsApp Link Aimed at Accessing Personal Data

The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces issued a statement warning users of the WhatsApp application against opening links intended to access personal data.

According to the statement, "A number of citizens have received a fraudulent text message via WhatsApp, inviting them to register with the Workforce Organization to receive an amount of 400,000 L.L. The message states: 'Due to the current situation in the country, the Workforce Organization has decided to grant every citizen 400,000 L.L. as assistance to families unable to work under current conditions. Quickly enter your data from here: https://bit.ly/2crep4w.' This link does not belong to the Workforce Organization and aims to extract information from the recipient's device and acquire personal data that the latter fills in on the fraudulent application, in preparation for later use in fraudulent activities."

It is noteworthy that if anyone clicks on this link, they should reset their phone completely (format). Therefore, the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces requests citizens to be alert and cautious and not to enter any unsecured and unverified links to avoid falling victim to fraudulent operations. They also urge citizens, upon receiving any text message or email from entities, organizations, or institutions claiming potential financial gains, to not rush and to check the official site concerned in order to verify the accuracy of the information. It is mentioned that recently, there have been increased cases of fraud and breaches via the WhatsApp application, leading to the permanent closure of users' accounts for violating the company's policies.
