The "Lebanese Eastern Christian Union" discussed the security developments occurring in Lebanon during an emergency meeting.
The union stated in a press release, reported by the National News Agency, that the ongoing security incidents in Lebanon are a series of interconnected events. The statement explained that the beginning of this series was marked by the throwing of bombs at security forces tasked with protecting peaceful demonstrators and official institutions in Tripoli, followed by the provocative and documented attack on MP Selim Aoun’s home in Zahle, leading up to the assassination of peaceful activist Lukman Slim and the discovery of his body in the al-Adousiyah area, linked to a certain political faction.
The statement noted that these consecutive escalation episodes resemble popular Turkish series in the region, sharing a common trait of provoking impulsive reactions, emphasizing that they cannot be separated from the repeated confrontations currently witnessed in the Lebanese atmosphere, which have escalated alongside some signs of movement and resolution in complex regional issues.
The union's statement strongly condemned these ongoing incidents, especially the assassination of activist Lukman Slim, warning against a return to the series of political assassinations aimed at exploiting them in regional and international conflicts. The statement demanded that the Lebanese security agencies intensify their efforts to uncover the perpetrators of Slim's assassination and expose the motives behind it.
Furthermore, the Lebanese Eastern Christian Union urged free media and the Lebanese people to exercise the highest degree of awareness, to avoid being blindly swept into reckless reactions and superficial conclusions, and to continue raising crucial questions, foremost among them: Who are the real beneficiaries of provoking chaos in Lebanon?
