Minister of Economy and Trade Raoul Nehme signed an agreement with Recygrou, a group of French companies, to prepare studies for the treatment of debris within the port's silo area, funded by the French government.
The study will prepare a mechanism for handling the debris within the grain silo area and scattered on the port grounds, as well as how to dispose of or recycle it according to the environmental standards accepted in Lebanon and worldwide. Additionally, a plan for the grain silos will be developed following the crumbling of their foundations, which poses a risk to the safety of those approaching them. Nehme expressed gratitude to the French government for funding the project, hoping for the expedition of the study and its implementation to ensure public safety.
It is noteworthy that after the Beirut port explosion disaster, French President Emmanuel Macron visited Lebanon twice, on August 6 and then on September 1, confirming France's support for Lebanon to meet its needs following the explosion. He emphasized that France would not waver in the necessity for reforms and investigations into the cause of the Beirut port explosion, clarifying that his country contributes to supporting the Lebanese people, and this support cannot come without backing from the Lebanese authorities, emphasizing the need to work on rebuilding the Beirut port and the neighborhoods affected by the explosion.
