Under the title "Continuous Support for the Lebanese People," the Qatari newspaper Al-Sharq published an opinion article highlighting that throughout every situation and crisis faced by the brotherly Republic of Lebanon, the State of Qatar has remained at the forefront of supporters for Lebanon and its people. This steadfast position is reflected in practical measures taken by the state at all levels, especially during times of severe crises and hardships.
In this context, Qatar participated yesterday in the conference to support the Lebanese people organized by the French Republic and the United Nations via virtual communication, represented by His Excellency Mr. Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
During the current crisis faced by the Lebanese people, Qatari support for the Lebanese has been continuous. His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State, previously announced during the Paris Donors Conference held last August the allocation of 50 million dollars as aid from Qatar to support the brotherly Republic of Lebanon, in response to humanitarian obligations and the solidarity that stems from brotherhood.
Qatar has been alongside Lebanon since the very first day of the Beirut port disaster, swiftly establishing an air bridge that included 13 planes loaded with hundreds of tons of aid, sending a team from the Qatari International Search and Rescue Group, and setting up two fully-equipped field hospitals with a capacity of 1,000 beds. It also contributed to the restoration of dozens of schools, universities, and educational buildings in cooperation with UNESCO, alongside supporting Lebanese authorities' efforts to combat COVID-19 and other challenges.
However, the most significant support that Qatar has continuously provided to the Lebanese brothers during crises is its supportive stance towards Lebanese parties, promoting dialogue among them, and encouraging a focus on national interest to help overcome crises. Qatar stands firmly with Lebanon until it surpasses its difficult circumstances, making its support and assistance a consistent source of welcome and appreciation from the Lebanese people.
