Apple has launched new updates for various iPhone models, the iPad tablet, and Mac devices. The company stated that the updates fix security vulnerabilities that can be exploited when visiting suspicious or fake websites, which some reports indicate hackers have already taken advantage of.
Apple added that the new updates address security issues on iPhones starting from version 6s and all models of the iPad Pro, the iPad Air from the second generation, the iPad from the fifth generation, the iPad Mini from the fourth generation, and iPod Touch starting from the seventh generation.
The operating system will be updated to "iOS 15.3.1" or "iPadOS 15.3.1" and the Macs will be updated to "macOS 12.2.1". If the "iOS" operating system update does not appear, the user should connect the iPhone or iPad to the charger, enable the WLAN Wi-Fi network, visit the "Settings/General/Software Update" menu, and then tap "Download and Install." On Macs, the update can be found under "System Settings/Software Update" and then selecting "Update Now."
Additionally, the company announced its aim to improve protection against tracking and surveillance using Airtags. These small tags, along with Apple devices, form the "Where is?" network for locating lost items such as bags and even keychains.
Airtags can be misused for tracking and monitoring by being attached without the user's consent. To protect against tracking and surveillance, the device will alert the user if an Airtag is consistently detected nearby, along with an audible alarm after 24 hours at most if it is present in close proximity to someone who does not have an iPhone.
Apple also revealed that it is working on improving the accuracy of locating Airtags with enhanced logic for warning notifications on iPhones, linking them with the audible alert on Airtags for precise location identification, as well as changing the sound alert and increasing its volume.
