A group of senior former Israeli officials from the Atomic Energy Commission, the military, and the Mossad welcomed the United States' return to the nuclear agreement signed with Iran in 2015.
The Jerusalem Post reported today that the Israeli officials sent a message to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressing their support for the US rejoining the nuclear deal made with Iran in 2015. According to the newspaper, former Deputy Chief of Staff of the IDF Matan Vilnai, who led the group, stated that they welcome the American initiative aimed at compelling Iran to once again follow the guidelines of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action transparently, as long as it includes an Iranian commitment to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (regarding the development of ballistic missiles).
The senior former Israeli military officials expressed their support for President Biden's current stance of not lifting sanctions on Iran unless it returns to compliance with the 2015 agreement. This message coincided with a high-level Israeli meeting held by Netanyahu today to discuss Israel's approach regarding the US administration's intention to return to the agreement on Iran's nuclear program. Prior to the signing of the 2015 agreement, from which former President Donald Trump withdrew in 2018, the group urged Netanyahu to cancel his speech before the US Congress.
