A number of protesters in Tripoli hurled stones at the Tripoli Serail, prompting the intervention of security forces.
The National News Agency reported that several protesters launched a heavy barrage of stones at the Tripoli Serail in protest against the lockdown and the summons issued against violators, along with the severe economic crisis, resulting in damage to several parked cars in the courtyard. The agency added that the security forces intervened immediately, confronting the protesters and pushing them away from the entrance of the Serail to Abd al-Hamid Karami Square, causing a back-and-forth situation and protesters throwing stones at the security forces. This led to injuries among the Internal Security Forces, one of whom was struck by a stone, while the security forces responded with tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators.
The agency stated that the army reinforced military presence around the square, while the Internal Security Forces also brought in reinforcements near the Serail, indicating that the protesters retreated towards the city's inland markets. According to the agency, several injuries were reported among the protesters, with four individuals transported by the Red Cross, while the Emergency and Relief Department of the Islamic Medical Association treated others on-site. Some security personnel were also injured as a result of stone-throwing.
In a related context, a group of youth from the Sidon movement gathered in Eliya Square in Sidon in solidarity with the protesters in Tripoli, marching through the streets and some of the city's popular neighborhoods while chanting slogans against the political class, demanding a balance between food security and health security towards the Star Square, with the Lebanese army and Internal Security Forces implementing security measures in the square's vicinity.
The agency noted that trash containers were thrown in some side streets as a form of protest. Additionally, protesters blocked the international highway in Al-Minya at the entrance of the town of Bhanin near Lebanon's Green Ovens in both directions, protesting against poor living conditions and opposing the decision to extend the general mobilization until February 8.
