An Egyptian fan who got into a verbal altercation with the coach of the Egyptian national team, Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, revealed details of what transpired between them after the match between Egypt and Nigeria in the opening of Group D in the Africa Cup of Nations, which ended with Nigeria's 1-0 victory. The Egyptian fan stated in a video published by "kora plus": "The team was bad, especially the midfield, and I told Queiroz after the match, 'Aren't Elneny and Hamdi Fathy a disgrace?' He reacted in a rude manner and insulted me, wanting to engage in a fight, saying 'Come to me, you don’t understand anything.'" He added: "Those around me pushed me away, but I should have responded; however, I didn’t out of respect, as he is an older man."
The Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz had a heated argument with one of the fans who attended the match, as fans blamed Queiroz for the national team’s loss to Nigeria, citing his player position changes and relying on Mohamed Salah as a striker instead of Mustafa Mohamed, who was placed in the right winger position, which is not his role, along with poor player utilization and incorrect substitutions.
The Egyptian national team lost by a score of 1-0 at the Stade de la Réunification in Garoua, Cameroon, in the first round of Group D matches in the Africa Cup of Nations, which continues until February 6. Nigeria topped Group D after earning the first three points against the Pharaohs, while Sudan and Guinea-Bissau shared second and third places with their goalless draw, leaving the Egyptian team at the bottom of the table.
The Egyptian national team will play its next match on Saturday against Guinea-Bissau, while the Nigerian team will face Sudan.
