The Director General of Lebanon's General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, confirmed that Lebanon will not enter into darkness after the expiration of its contract with the Algerian oil-exporting company, indicating that many alternatives are being worked on.
In a discussion with Iraqi News, Abbas stated that there are technical teams from Iraq and Lebanon discussing the technical details of the oil materials that Lebanon will import from Iraq, and that work on this issue is ongoing. He noted that after the technical discussions are concluded, the file will be presented to the Iraqi Cabinet for official approval of the agreement. Abbas added that Lebanon is going through difficult circumstances and that Iraq stands by Lebanon during these times, emphasizing the importance of ensuring Lebanon's interests without harming Iraq's interests and its people.
In response to the talk about the existence of obstacles in this file, Ibrahim pointed out that there must be opposing voices to any action being taken, whether in Lebanon or any country in the world. He affirmed that at the official level of negotiations with the Iraqi side and the concerned ministers, work is ongoing.
It is noteworthy that Iraqi Minister of Oil Ihsan Abdul Jabbar had announced earlier last year the commencement of exporting surplus fuel oil to Lebanon starting from early 2021, in limited quantities to be announced later and based on the global prices applicable to this type of petroleum derivatives.
