Friend Gets Entangled in Drug Trafficking Using Underwear

The Public Prosecutor's Office in Dubai revealed important details in a drug possession case where the narcotic substance was cleverly concealed by sewing it into undergarments. An individual brought this to a police station to deliver it to another person already sentenced in a drug case. During the interrogation, the accused denied any connection to the narcotics or using them, indicating that he had been deceived by the brother of the detained individual under the guise of friendship.

The Public Prosecutor's Office determined that there was no basis for criminal charges against the carrier of the drugs in this incident, which included particulars worthy of scrutiny to prevent others from falling into the same trap.

Assistant Prosecutor Ahmed Mohammed Tamim from the Narcotics Prosecution stated that the accused came to deliver a bag containing the needs of the detained individual accused of using psychoactive substances before he was transferred to correctional facilities. During a precautionary search, drugs were found expertly hidden in the undergarments.

The accused maintained during police investigations that he was unaware of the nature of the narcotics found and claimed to have no knowledge of the detained person, stating he was merely a messenger for the latter’s brother and did not know about the concealed drugs. He noted that he had never previously brought any items to the detained individual.

When questioned by the officers in charge, they reported that the accused was immediately interviewed about the seized narcotics upon their discovery, and he reiterated that he did not know what they were nor was he aware they were hidden in the clothing. He also stated that he was in a normal state when he arrived at the detention center and showed complete willingness to cooperate with the police.

Tamim added that the accused appeared shocked after the search of the clothing and displayed signs of anxiety once the officers discovered the banned substances expertly sewn into the garments.

After investigating the case, the Public Prosecutor's Office concluded that there was no basis for filing criminal charges against the accused for the felony of drug possession and the misdemeanor of introducing it into the facility by any means, according to the laws and regulations governing such institutions.

He emphasized the necessity of being attentive when delivering any items to a person sentenced in correctional facilities, particularly in drug cases, as narcotics can be skillfully hidden within personal belongings, and the transporter may remain unaware of their nature, easily manipulated, and exploited under the pretext of friendship or kinship.

He clarified that if a person is caught with narcotics in their possession, they will face legal consequences, even if they were unaware of the existence of those carried substances, as there could be other instances where ignorance does not serve as a justification for evading accountability and punishment, given that it is well-known that the law does not protect the foolish.
