In Egypt: Surveillance Cameras Expose Man Who Assaulted a Child

A Egyptian man took advantage of being alone with a girl and assaulted her; however, surveillance cameras captured the incident months later, exposing his crime. The man is a former employee at the Traffic Prosecution Office in the Dokki area of Giza Governorate, while the victim is the daughter of a woman who works in a store owned by the accused in partnership with another person, according to a reporter for "Sky News Arabia."

The public prosecutor in Egypt ordered the detention of the employee for four days pending investigations, charging him with the assault of a girl under 18 by force and threat "as he is someone who has authority over her, due to her working under him."

Investigations revealed that the victim's mother, after separating from her husband and having a neighborly relationship with the accused, borrowed a sum of money from him to meet her needs and signed receipts in return but was unable to repay the amount later. The accused then offered her and her daughter jobs at a mobile phone sales company he is involved with, to which they agreed.

In November of last year, the accused seized the opportunity to be alone with the victim at the company, forcibly kissed her, and threatened her with pursuing her mother over the receipts she had signed if she revealed his crime, so she felt compelled not to report him.

According to the public prosecutor, "God did not allow his secret to remain hidden, as the accused overlooked the surveillance cameras capturing his crime at the time it happened. His partner kept the footage until a dispute arose between them at work, at which point he published the video on social media to embarrass and take revenge on him."

The monitoring unit at the Public Prosecution Office detected the video, and upon presenting the matter to Attorney General Hamada El-Sawy, an immediate investigation was ordered. The public prosecutor tasked the police with identifying both the victim and the accused, and investigations confirmed their identities and the commission of the crime by the accused. The public prosecutor also questioned the victim and her mother about the details of what happened and ordered the arrest of the suspect, who was found to have been on an official unpaid leave from work for a year.

The public prosecutor interrogated him after his arrest, and he admitted to committing the crime and confirmed his appearance in the circulated video. He was ordered to be held in custody, and his resignation from his job was accepted. The public prosecutor is working to complete the investigations in the case.

The public prosecutor requested the suspension of circulation of the video and similar clips and to present them to the investigative authorities. They also urged anyone who is a victim of such crimes not to feel ashamed or scared to report them.
