Tracy Chamoun: The Political Authority is Committing a Double Crime Against Lebanon

Ambassador Tracy Chamoun sees the political authority as committing a double crime, as it leads to the starvation of a large segment of the Lebanese population on one hand, while causing illness and death on the other. Many find that the only way out of their suffering is through protests, which could lead to an additional increase in the number of COVID-19 infections.

According to the National News Agency, Chamoun stated in a press release today: "We do not forget, especially, the ongoing crime of delaying the formation of a government, at a time when both the President and the Prime Minister designate are sticking to their positions. The former insists on not apologizing to the latter, while the latter insists on receiving an invitation from the former, indifferent to the fate of the country and the state of its people." Chamoun questioned, "Does this political authority not hear the groans of its people? Are they not following the inability of social institutions to continue their work? Has the image of a father handing his children to army personnel due to his inability to feed them not moved them?"

She concluded: "We are dealing with a power that neither hears nor sees and has no conscience, and there is no solution except to uproot it, and the only way to do that is to unite all the opposition forces that have not been tainted by corruption or participated in the collapse." It is noted that the formation of a government in Lebanon is hindered by internal struggles over the distribution of political influence and financial resources, but the main obstacle ultimately relates to tensions between regional countries and alliances.
