U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the competition with China will be fierce, embracing this challenge and calling for cooperation with Europe side by side.
In a speech at the Munich Security Conference, President Biden emphasized the necessity of addressing the shortcomings of the Chinese economic system, demanding that Chinese companies adhere to laws and standards. He noted that achieving harmony between America, Europe, and China is one of the most important efforts he will undertake. Biden stressed that America is back and the transatlantic alliance will revive, urging not to dwell on past events. He stated, "We will cooperate significantly with our allies and friends, we will continue to support freedom and peace, and we are committed to NATO."
Biden mentioned that efforts are being made to enhance global alliance networks to make them safer for all peoples, referencing his orders to withdraw American soldiers from Germany as a reflection of America's determination to rebuild trust in relations with Europe. He reaffirmed his country’s commitment that Afghanistan should not be a refuge for terrorist groups that launch attacks on countries around the world, emphasizing that ISIS must not be allowed to reorganize to carry out attacks in the Middle East.
Regarding relations with Russia, Biden asserted the need to repel all entities advocating for oppression globally and to confront the threats posed by Russia to the system, considering the Russian system to be corrupt and that Putin seeks to challenge the European order. He highlighted the Russian threats as a significant danger to both America and Europe, indicating that Putin aims to weaken the European project and NATO, making it crucial to confront Russian recklessness to safeguard our collective security.
Biden underscored the necessity of global cooperation to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and prepare for any similar pandemics, pointing out that the situation in Africa reminds us of the need to work in parallel to strengthen global health systems. He emphasized the need to bolster global health frameworks, stating that the world can no longer afford to delay serious action against climate change. Biden announced the United States' rejoining of the Paris Climate Agreement.
On the Middle East situation, Biden stressed the importance of addressing destabilizing actions in the region and the cooperation between Europe and the United States to counter Iran's destabilizing activities. He mentioned resuming negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program and working to limit its activities in the region while continuing efforts to prevent weapons from reaching "terrorist organizations." Biden affirmed that the United States will fulfill its role in the alliance and collectively face challenges, warning that any attack on a NATO member state is an attack on all member countries.
