Under the title "I Am Free with My Money" - Sawiris Offers to the Dress Girl, the Al Arabiya website reported that after her failure in two subjects, Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris intervened in the crisis surrounding "the dress girl." He offered student Habiba Tarek, a second-year student at the Faculty of Arts at Tanta University, the opportunity to continue her studies at any university at his own expense.
Sawiris clarified during a call to a local TV channel that his offer to the student to complete her studies at any private university is not related to the position of the university president, Dr. Mahmoud Zaki, regarding the issue.
"I Am Free in My Appearance"
He added that since the beginning of the crisis, he found from the girl's image that she is innocent and young, wearing modest attire, and has the absolute right to her appearance. He stated, "We have reached an unbearable level of bullying... everyone is acting as if they are the guardians of virtue and freedoms... everyone should mind their own business, and in the end, it is God who judges... I do not like pretenders to virtue."
"I Am Free with My Money"
He pointed out that his support for the girl is a personal act stemming from a humanitarian stance, and he remarked, "I am free with my money," reiterating his categorical rejection of intervening in others' freedoms. Sawiris believes that the dress student has faced an unjust and unacceptable campaign, asserting that he always strives to support those he describes as "the weak."
Acceptance of the Offer
Meanwhile, the "dress girl" accepted Sawiris' offer, stating that she agrees to it after experiencing what she described as injustice and persecution against a successful and ambitious girl, noting that she intended to withdraw her papers from the university.
The story of the dress girl has sparked controversy in Egypt, as student Habiba Tarek, who studies in her second year at the Faculty of Arts at Tanta University, revealed that she faced bullying from exam supervisors at the end of the academic year due to wearing a dress instead of "pants." The girl mentioned, "I entered the exam hall, and after completing my exam, I went out to collect my card, and I found a supervisor who asked me, 'Did you forget to wear your pants or what?'" She indicated that the supervisors went too far in mocking her.
