Judge Bitar in His Office for the First Time in 9 Months

Judge Bitar in His Office for the First Time in 9 Months

It is established and confirmed in the investigations of the Beirut port crime that the finance minister in the caretaker government, Youssef Khalil, will not sign the decree to appoint heads of cassation courts due to severe political disputes between investigating judge Tarek Bitar and the accused former officials and ministers who refuse the summons issued against them. Under these appointments, the general assembly was supposed to resume its sessions, with on its agenda the lawsuit filed against the state by MPs Ali Hassan Khalil and Ghazi Zeaiter against Judge Najy Eid, who was appointed by the general assembly to consider the requests for Bitar's recusal in the port case.

Notably, today, Judge Bitar attended his office for the first time since December 23, 2021, and received the summary of several recusal requests and requests to transfer the case from his jurisdiction submitted by the accused and detainees in the case.

According to those familiar with the case, the decree will not pass for sectarian-political reasons, with the fundamental reason titled: "Tarek Bitar." Meanwhile, the "Shiite duo," namely Hezbollah and Amal Movement, will not accept finding political formulas to keep Bitar, accusing him—now and in the future—of politicizing the investigation. The imposed equation on allies and adversaries is that they are to be against the investigating judge in the port explosion case. Furthermore, it seems that the series of investigations and their obstruction is ongoing, as stated by a judicial source, who said: "There is no concrete outlook on the options for disruption and the conclusions of the investigations." He added: "What is required from all this ‘mess’ is to pressurize Judge Bitar and incite the victims' families against him to step down by discouraging them through the delays in achieving justice, and thus appointing another judge to ‘satisfy’ the implicated parties and keep the specter of prosecution or suspicion away from them."

Moreover, it is worth noting the statement by American Senator Richard Black last May, who said that "the Beirut port explosion was not accidental but was orchestrated," expressing his belief that "the CIA was aware of who carried out this act." Additionally, William Noun, the brother of firefighter Joe Noun, stated in an appearance on "Sar Al-Waqt" about a week ago, announcing an investigation report about the army inspecting the "Rhosus" nitrate ship, and said that the investigation response indicated it was empty of any hazardous materials—while the judiciary still refuses to act and take the necessary measures to solve the mystery of this case.
