The Director General of General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, emphasized the need to "continue working to create a stable environment that helps provide a significant amount of security and safety during this phase of internal complexities." He stated, "We have no choice but the state and its institutions to uplift the new Lebanon that our future generations aspire to, so they can live under a state that nurtures them with rights, justice, and law."
His remarks came during a honor lunch in Zahle organized by Dr. Youssef Chahin, in recognition of his efforts, endeavors, and success in securing the release of Zahli doctor Richard Kharat, in the presence of the city's MPs Michel Daher, Selim Aoun, Elias Stefan, Bilal Al-Hachimi, as well as bishops, religious figures, and dignitaries.
He noted, "Based on our humanitarian duty first and our professional duty second, we at the General Directorate of General Security, and based on the tasks assigned to us by law, have never hesitated to follow up on any Lebanese case abroad. Here, it is necessary to express gratitude to the sisterly United Arab Emirates which cooperated from the very first moment with the General Directorate of General Security in the case of Dr. Richard Kharat. I take this opportunity to announce continued coordination regarding the cases of other detained Lebanese, each case according to its specific circumstances."
He added, "Today, we gather in Zahle from various political and religious affiliations, and from different regions that recently witnessed an important electoral entitlement, where people expressed their decision and said their word through voting and choosing candidates."
He praised "the participation of youth through the high voter turnout, which imposes upon us the obligation to stand by them, and to combine efforts to secure a promising future for them in their country instead of pushing them to emigrate." He hoped that "everyone bears the responsibility placed upon them to face upcoming challenges peacefully, and let cooperation and dialogue be the slogan of the phase we will undergo, reflecting positively on the living and security conditions in the country." He stressed that "political consensus on pivotal issues and major questions is sufficient to keep Lebanon in a stable economic and security position."
He addressed Kharat: "Life is a continuous series of experiences and never-ending tests. The lesson is to transform these experiences into positive values and turn them into a driving force in our human and professional journey, as you are a son of this land that embraces love, tolerance, and the civilizational message spread across all corners of the globe."
For his part, Kharat thanked Ibrahim for his efforts and the support of the Medical Syndicate for his cause, and apologized to his family for the "sorrow and sadness" they faced during his detention in the United Arab Emirates.
