The Gathering of Muslim Scholars expressed its astonishment at everyone's anticipation of the American-French agreement to find a solution to the government formation crisis, while they talk about freedom, sovereignty, and independence.
According to a statement from the Gathering, reported by the National News Agency, it is surprising that everyone today is pinning their hopes on the American-French agreement to produce a solution. They continue to discuss independence, sovereignty, and freedom, as if this country and its leaders have not yet reached political maturity and are in constant need of guardianship.
The statement called on the designated Prime Minister Saad Hariri to immediately announce his government or apologize so that the parliament can assign another figure capable of prioritizing Lebanon's interests above any other. The scholars urged Hariri, if he wishes to form a government, to ensure it is balanced and includes qualified individuals with good reputations and clean records, while adhering to uniform standards in selection so that no one can object.
The Gathering believes that leaders insist on stubbornness and cling to their positions regarding government formation, noting that mediations and interventions have failed to sway them from this obstinacy and to heed the call of conscience in urgently addressing the dangers faced by the nation and its citizens. It pointed out that anyone attempting to resolve disputes and create communication channels encounters criticism and attack, which forces them into counter-attacks, leading supporters to respond through social media, resulting in a battleground of accusations, insults, and slander. The statement expressed hope that this conflict does not spill into the streets, leading to dangerous turmoil that could signal the complete collapse of the country, as most of its sectors are either collapsed or on the verge of collapse.
Furthermore, the statement condemned Israeli soldiers for firing shots into the air to intimidate farmers from the town of Maiss al-Jabal, who were planting seedlings in their liberated lands in the Kroum al-Sharqi area. It demanded that the Lebanese Army provide protection for farmers while they work in their fields, and that United Nations forces monitor the situation to prevent the Israeli enemy from attacking the farmers.
