In Iraq: The Song "Maseetra" Causes Bride's Divorce at Wedding

In Iraq: The Song

A bride did not expect her story with her husband to end at her wedding due to a disagreement related to a song that has recently gone viral. Social media users revealed that a groom divorced his wife during the wedding after the bride danced to the song "Maseetra," which he considered an "insult" in front of others.

Twitter users pointed out that the bride danced at the event to the lyrics that say: "I am in control, I’ll make you a ruler, as long as you are with me, you'll go according to my wishes, I am proud." This angered the groom, leading him to separate from her.

While the website could not verify the location and timing of the divorce, activists confirmed it occurred at a wedding hall in Jordan. Concurrently, social media users in Jordan circulated a video said to be related to the same incident, indicating that the song "Maseetra" caused a significant problem between a young man and his fiancée.

In the video, the young man is heard shouting at his fiancée, who posted a picture of him kissing her hand paired with the song "Maseetra," which embarrassed him in front of his friends, family, and relatives, who suggested he should be a "happy rabbit" instead of a "sad lion."

It is noteworthy that "Maseetra" is one of the newest songs released in 2021 by Syrian singer Lamis Kan, who also acted in the movie "Tusbih Ala Khair" in 2017, starring Tamer Hosny along with Noor and Mai Omar. The song achieved significant success after being released on YouTube, garnering over 30 million views.

Furthermore, users on Instagram and Snapchat turned the song "Maseetra" into a trend (fashion) for dancing to its lyrics, showcasing "female control" with the ultimate decision in her hands. A similar story circulated several years ago when a groom divorced his wife at their wedding after she danced to the song "I Love You, My Donkey."

Social media users shared a video of the "fastest divorce" conducted by a man during his wedding, as mentioned in an episode of "Ahamr Bel Khat Al-Areed," hosted by Lebanese presenter Malik Maktabi. The man said the bride told him she prepared a surprise song for him, which turned out to be "I Love You, My Donkey" by Saad El Soghayar. He explained that he was enraged upon hearing it, driving him to divorce her without hesitation.
