The "National Council of the Cedar Revolution" (Lebanese Front) held its weekly meeting at its headquarters, chaired by its Secretary-General, Tony Nisi, with the participation of members of the political bureau. The meeting addressed political, social, security, and economic affairs.
The National News Agency reported that the council issued a statement condemning the tragic situation politically, security-wise, health-wise, economically, and developmentally. They criticized the authorities' inability to make unified decisions, pointing to the chaos among members of the committee tasked with following up on the corona pandemic. The statement highlighted serious political indicators, noting the lack of trust the people have in their leaders, and indicated increasing risks from external interference. They considered the situation required a radical reform movement to end the irregularities, clarifying that the current tragic reality reflects the existence of incompetent officials seeking aid for either treatment, feeding their citizens, or repairing buildings destroyed by poor political management. The council deemed the problem in Lebanon very large and serious, calling for a rescue political movement to rectify what remains of the state, institutions, and people.
The statement from the National Council of the Cedar Revolution congratulated US President Joe Biden, hoping that the new American administration could enhance bilateral relations between Lebanon and the United States in a sound and stable manner. They called on the US administration to avoid any conflict or confrontation that burdens the peoples and urged adherence to respect among countries to lead the world in a stable way that benefits oppressed communities. The attendees in their statement requested the new American administration, based on their respect for democracy, to engage with the oppressed and disadvantaged Lebanese people on the basis that democracy is one of the universally recognized ideals and core values of the United States. They noted that since the American system is democratic, democracy scientifically creates an environment suitable for protecting human rights and effective operations, and these values are enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The attendees further asserted in their statement, "We draw the attention of the American administration to the importance of democracy as the rule of people governing themselves, as the people are the ones who decide who governs them. In Lebanon, the popular will is completely dissatisfied with those in power, and they are in a state of divorce; thus, it is the duty of the American administration to engage in dialogue with free forces that have a sovereign program recognized and respected by all parties."
In conclusion, the attendees hoped that a Lebanese-American committee would be formed to study the overall Lebanese situation in order to find solutions to the Lebanese crisis so that the Lebanese Republic does not remain hostage to local, regional, and international tensions.
