French Foreign Ministry Responds to Amnesty International's Call to Halt Arms Sales to Lebanon

The spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry commented on Amnesty International's call for France to suspend arms sales to Lebanon.

The National News Agency reported that the French embassy in Lebanon distributed a statement from the French Foreign Ministry spokesperson in response to a question regarding Amnesty International's request to halt arms sales to Lebanon, emphasizing the use of tear gas canisters, rubber bullets, and French-manufactured launchers against demonstrators in Lebanon. The statement said, "The French authorities pay careful attention to requests for export licenses for classified equipment that may be used for maintaining order, and each request is studied individually, in line with their international commitments."

The French Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that Lebanon is facing a severe economic, social, and political crisis, and its stability is essential for the entire region. The statement emphasized that France regularly reminds of its commitment to respecting the rights of Lebanese citizens to protest peacefully. It also clarified that France, in conjunction with its key partners, supports the Lebanese armed forces and internal security forces, regardless of maintaining order, to empower them to safeguard Lebanon's sovereignty, independence, and stability, steering it away from regional crises. The statement pointed out that France is mobilizing efforts to end the crisis in Lebanon and stands by the Lebanese people as it has always done.
