The Suleiman family in Haret Hreik has blocked the way for opportunists and instigators of discord regarding the murder of Luqman Suleiman by demanding that the final word in the investigation be given to security and judicial authorities.
The Suleiman family issued a statement this evening condemning the assassination of Luqman Mohsen Suleiman, rejecting its exploitation by certain voices of discord who prematurely directed accusations in various directions. The Suleiman family's statement called for security and judicial authorities to take the lead in conducting a swift investigation and uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The name of Lebanese researcher and political activist Luqman Suleiman became prominent in search engines after he was found shot in the head inside his car in the Nabatieh area of southern Lebanon. Following the announcement of his assassination, commentators linked the crime to the strained relationship between Luqman Suleiman and the Lebanese Hezbollah party that controls the area where Suleiman was killed. Luqman Suleiman was identified in news headlines as a "strong opponent of Hezbollah."
Some circulated a statement he had published earlier, in which he claimed he had received threats and held Hezbollah's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and President Nabih Berri responsible for his safety and that of his family. In the statement, Suleiman said, "I hold the reality authorities represented by Hassan Nasrallah and Professor Nabih Berri fully responsible for what has occurred and what may happen, and I place myself, my home, and my family under the protection of the Lebanese security forces, headed by the Lebanese army. O God, I have conveyed the message."
On the other hand, some blamed Luqman Suleiman's assassination on Israel or "other factions" that exploited the "hostility" between Suleiman and Hezbollah to complicate the Lebanese situation further.
It is worth mentioning that Luqman Suleiman was born in the southern suburbs of Beirut and studied in France, where he obtained a degree in philosophy from the Sorbonne University. He founded Dar Al-Jadid Publishing and served as the director of the "Ummam Center for Research and Documentation," which specialized in "documenting Lebanese history and gathering a diverse collection of historical documents and works of art, preserving and promoting them among the public."
