Today, procedures have begun to lift the siege imposed by the "SDF" militia on the center of Al-Hasakah city and the neighborhoods of Halko and Tay in Qamishli by opening several roads for the movement of cars and citizens.
The official news agency, SANA, quoted the governor of Al-Hasakah stating, "There are procedures started to lift the siege imposed by the Kurdish forces on the center of Al-Hasakah city, as the siege on some areas in Qamishli is being lifted. We hope the lifting of the siege will continue in Al-Hasakah and other parts of Qamishli.” Khalil indicated that the procedures will continue and expressed hope that roads would not be closed again and that citizens would not be deprived of their livelihoods, as well as basic necessities like heating fuel, flour for bread, and medicine.
A SANA reporter mentioned that several roads have been opened for citizens and cars in Al-Hasakah after removing some obstacles, concrete blocks, and iron barriers placed by the SDF during their siege, which lasted about 20 days. Meanwhile, there has been active movement on the roads and entrances to the Halko and Tay neighborhoods in Qamishli following the lifting of the siege.
The SDF had imposed a tight siege on the center of Al-Hasakah and neighborhoods in Qamishli for nearly twenty consecutive days, preventing the entry of vehicles, means of transport, food supplies, water tankers, and other basic necessities such as flour and fuel, denying access to the residents of the city.
Sources had previously revealed to Sputnik that a preliminary agreement was reached through Russian efforts, concerning the lifting of the siege imposed by US-backed armed groups around the cities of Qamishli and Al-Hasakah, in the far northeast of Syria.
The sources confirmed that intensive meetings were held in Qamishli in recent hours between the Russian side and leaders of the SDF, during which a preliminary agreement was reached to lift the siege on the besieged neighborhoods in the two cities.
