Syrian artist Raghda shared a post on her personal "Facebook" account in which she called for the immediate recovery and overcoming of cancer for artist Mayada Basyllis.
Raghda expressed her sadness and pain over what has befallen Basyllis, translating her feelings into touching words and sharing a photo of them together with Basyllis's husband. Raghda described Mayada as a swallow that awakens optimism in her morning and prayed for her to rise up, heal, and confront the illness. She likened Basyllis's face to that of an innocent child that brings joy to her spirit. Raghda elaborated by saying that Basyllis is, for her, her angel and star, and that her heart is dark without the ray of light she provides, requesting her to return to dispel all that darkness. She compared Basyllis to a pearl that once challenged the tides of cancer and continues to confront it.
It was recently announced that Syrian artist Mayada Basyllis has been diagnosed with cancer, through numerous reports shared across social media platforms, which varied from site to site. However, Basyllis has been ill for some time, and the announcement came late.
On another note, Raghda's activity on social media is minimal, but she has recently shared posts supporting her colleagues in the art community, including the esteemed Syrian artist Dureid Lahham, whom she defended against critics, deeming him the foremost symbol of art in Syria and the master of the Syrian artistic scene. She sent a message to the critics to fill their void with words befitting Lahham's artistic journey, describing him as a great artist who has reigned supreme in art without competition, indicating that his status among Syrians is similar to that of venerable Egyptian artist Adel Imam among the Egyptian people; as they are aware and appreciative of the value of these artists in the Arab world.
Raghda expressed her happiness and good fortune in having worked with Egyptian artist Adel Imam in the play "Bodi Guard," where they opened the performance together, highlighting how much she loves and cherishes her different experience with him, wishing him well and health. It is worth noting that the play "Bodi Guard" has not been performed since 2010, after running for 11 consecutive seasons since 1999, featuring alongside the star and Raghda several artists, including Mostafa Metwally and Ezzat Abou Ouf, written by screenwriter Youssef Maati and directed by Rami Imam.
