Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stated that the nuclear agreement is an important achievement for multilateral diplomacy, emphasizing that we should not allow this agreement to go to waste easily.
The Iranian news agency "IRNA" reported that Rouhani's remarks came during a phone call on Thursday with European Council President Charles Michel, where they discussed the latest developments regarding the nuclear agreement with Iran. Rouhani called on the European Union to play a suitable role in confronting American unilateralism, stressing the significance of the European Council's role in shaping general political orientations and setting EU priorities, saying: "The EU, as a significant player on the global stage, should fulfill a suitable role in countering American unilateralism."
The Iranian president confirmed that the nuclear agreement is seen as an important achievement for multilateral diplomacy, explaining that the EU's foreign policy chief, as the coordinator of the nuclear agreement, can play his role in outlining the next steps. Rouhani stressed the necessity of combating terrorism and extremism as major issues for the region and the world, asserting Iran's readiness to cooperate with the EU in fighting terrorism and extremism, and welcoming regional cooperation in this context.
He expressed concern over the strengthening of ISIS's capabilities in the region following the killing of Quds Force commander General Qassem Soleimani, considering the presence of foreign forces in the region contributes to increased tension, affirming the responsibility of regional countries to provide security, peace, and stability.
In this regard, it is worth noting that the French capital is set to host talks, while Iran announced that "Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, will visit Tehran next Saturday to hold technical discussions with the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization regarding Iran's intention to stop implementing the additional protocol of the nuclear agreement."
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stated that the current U.S. administration is pursuing the same arrogance policy as the previous administration, adding that "some officials in the Biden administration believe they can still gain concessions through a maximum pressure policy on Tehran."
